Two young Baloch students have reportedly been forcibly disappeared by Pakistani security forces in Turbat, the main city of Kech district in Balochistan, according to family members and local sources.
Seventeen-year-old Shey Haq Baloch, son of the late Altaf Baloch, and sixteen-year-old Adam Baloch, son of Saleem, were allegedly detained by security personnel on Tuesday shortly after arriving in Turbat from Karachi.
Nugra Baloch, the sister of Shey Haq, confirmed the incident in a Facebook post. She said both boys were first-year college students and were detained by Pakistani forces and intelligence agencies.
“I urge everyone to raise their voices against this illegal and barbaric act,” she wrote. “Help us in our fight for the safe return of my brother and Adam Baloch.”
Shey Haq Baloch’s father, Altaf Baloch, was killed in 2008 when Pakistani forces allegedly opened fire on a peaceful Baloch National Front (BNF) rally in Turbat.
In a separate incident on 30 April, two young men — Amir, son of Dad Bakhsh, and Usman, son of Abdul Ghani — were reportedly abducted from a barber shop in Pasni, Gwadar district. Both are residents of the town.
Another case has been reported from Turbat’s D-Baloch area, where Abdul Majeed, son of Abdul Ghani, was allegedly abducted by unidentified armed men while waiting for transport with his children.
According to family sources, Majeed had arrived from Karachi and was taken away at gunpoint by individuals believed to be agents of Pakistani intelligence agencies.
“This is not the first time,” a family member said. “His brother was also forcibly disappeared previously and later released.”
Enforced disappearances in Balochistan remain a grave and ongoing concern. Rights groups have long accused Pakistani security agencies of systematically targeting students, activists, and civilians.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, United Nations human rights experts described the “unrelenting use of enforced disappearances” in Balochistan as “a serious human rights violation and an international crime” and urged Pakistan to establish “independent and effective search and investigation mechanisms.”
