The Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, currently visiting Doha, discussed the recent political and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan with Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
Amir Khan Muttaqi described the relations between Afghanistan and Qatar as positive and expressed hope that these relations would expand in the near future.
Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated: “In this meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in various fields, and some regional issues. The Minister of Foreign Affairs described Afghanistan’s relationship with Qatar as positive and hoped that diplomatic relations between the two countries would be enhanced in the near future.”
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs also expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Afghanistan in the fields of culture, health, sports, and labor migration.
He also emphasized the need for a clear mechanism for regular communication between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
Experts have also shared their views on this matter.
Saleem Paigeer, a political affairs analyst, said: “Undoubtedly, just as the Islamic Emirate has some concerns and demands, the international community and Qatar also have their own. Mr. Muttaqi must remain committed to the pledges he makes to Qatar and, through them, to the international community, especially concerning human rights, women’s rights, schools, and universities.”
Moeen Gul Samkanai, another political affairs analyst, added: “Now that Qatar acts as a bridge between Afghanistan and the West, they always play their role. Meetings like these between officials of the Islamic Emirate and Qatari officials are beneficial for Afghanistan, as they can help connect us with the West politically, diplomatically, and economically.”
This meeting comes as Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in Qatar this Sunday at the official invitation of the Qatari Foreign Minister and had earlier met with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar.
