Abdulhaq Akhund, deputy minister for counter-narcotics at the Ministry of Interior, met with officials from Qatar’s Ministry of Interior during his visit to the country.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the two sides exchanged views and held discussions on bilateral cooperation in the fight against narcotics and drug control.
Abdulmatin Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said: “The Deputy Minister met with Qatari counter-narcotics officials. Both parties discussed ways to collaborate and exchanged views on joint efforts in combating and controlling drug trafficking.”
Some political analysts say this trip could pave the way for broader regional engagement on narcotics control.
Saleem Paigir, political affairs analyst, stated: “The fourth Doha meeting is expected to be held soon, and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is working to convince the international community—through Qatar—that it has been successful in the fight against narcotics and terrorism.”
Previously, the acting foreign minister of the Islamic Emirate also visited Qatar, where he discussed the political and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan with Qatari officials and described bilateral relations as positive.
