Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, has asked Roza Otunbayeva, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), to ensure that the mission’s reports reflect the actual ground realities of Afghanistan.

During a meeting with Muttaqi, Otunbayeva committed to conveying the messages of the current Afghan government at the upcoming United Nations Security Council session.

The Security Council meeting on Afghanistan is scheduled to be held on the 23rd of this month.

Zia Ahmad Takal, director of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “The Foreign Minister also requested UNAMA focus on the realities in their reports to ensure that the progress and comprehensive activities carried out in the country are shared with the international community.”

Fazl-ur-Rahman Oria, a political analyst, stated: “If UNAMA accurately reflects the real social realities embedded within Afghan society, particularly in international meetings and at the Security Council, the stance of other countries—including Western nations, especially the United States—will gradually shift toward Afghanistan.”

Roza Otunbayeva also said that efforts to attract investment and create job opportunities in Afghanistan are ongoing.

Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic analyst, said: “The international community can invest in fundamental areas instead of giving us cash aid. Rather than undermining our self-confidence, these funds should be directed toward projects that create fundamental work and help alleviate poverty.”

This comes as UNAMA’s reports, particularly in the field of human rights, have repeatedly been criticized and rejected by the Islamic Emirate after publication.
